Today, the Federal and Ontario governments joined with Hamilton’s Municipal Government, TradePort International Corporation and Cargojet Airways to celebrate the grand opening of the $12 million Air Cargo Centre at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
Joint funding for the 77,000 square foot facility was announced in January 2013 and will support the expansion of cargo operations at the Airport, and stimulate job creation and economic development for the City of Hamilton and greater region.
“We’re thrilled with the new Cargo Center and look forward to the opportunities it will help facilitate at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport,” said Frank Scremin, President and CEO of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, “This facility will allow us to maintain Hamilton International Airport’s dominant presence in the overnight express cargo segment in Canada, and create new opportunities to diversify the types of goods that can be processed through the Airport.”

- Cargojet will be anchor tenant of the Facility, occupying approximately half of the space
- It is estimated that this project created 50 immediate jobs through construction, and will potentially generate 400 jobs through direct and indirect economic activity
- John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and its partners are responsible for over 2,700 total jobs and over $34 million in federal, provincial and municipal taxes each year
