The Airport is proud to highlight numerous achievements in its annual report as it sets the stage for an even brighter future
Hamilton, ON (April 3, 2025) – John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (Hamilton International) is pleased to share its 2024 Year in Review annual report, highlighting operational achievements, infrastructure investments and community initiatives undertaken in 2024, including its focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) leadership across all business and management practices.
A momentous highlight from the year was finalizing a new long-term lease agreement with the City of Hamilton, which will transform operations and the development of infrastructure at Hamilton International over the next 49 years. The historic agreement secures a notable $400 million investment from TradePort International Corporation – a wholly owned subsidiary of Vantage Group – starting with the significant enhancements to the interior and exterior of the terminal building which are currently underway as Hamilton International prepares for the launch of Porter Airlines this June.
Hamilton International continued to evolve its passenger operations last year, becoming one of only two airports in the country offering Air Canada’s first-of-its-kind luxury ground transportation connection, operated in partnership with The Landline Company. This new partnership links Hamilton International to the airline’s global network of over 140 destinations via Toronto Pearson providing passengers with even greater connectivity around the world. Overall, the Airport welcomed 324,336 total passengers in 2024, a decline compared to the previous year that reflects broader trends in the aviation industry. Hamilton International remains committed to adapting and evolving as it focuses on enhancing its services, improving the overall passenger experience and providing travellers with non-stop flights and easy connections to a variety of domestic, transborder and international destinations.
The Airport and its cargo partners continued to optimize the movement of high-value and time-sensitive goods from coast to coast and around the globe, facilitating 754 million kilograms in total cargo aircraft billable weight through Hamilton International – a slight increase compared to 2023. Hamilton International continued to advance its Gateway Expansion and Sustainability Project, funded in part by Transport Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund, to expand airfield capacity and rehabilitate key airport infrastructure, including aprons and taxiways. These investments serve to eliminate bottlenecks and improve the efficiency, resiliency and reliability of this strategic transportation corridor, for Hamilton International, its stakeholders and the broader national supply chain, with these investments already providing benefits to Canadians with scheduled B777 and B747 cargo service beginning operations in 2024.
With a strategic focus on sustainable growth and long-term value creation, Hamilton International continues to maximize the use of its land assets with development soaring in the Airport’s Northeast Airport Development area following the construction of Taxiway Foxtrot, connecting the development area to the airfield. Construction related to Latitude Air Ambulance’s facility expansion, announced in 2023, progressed with expected completion in early 2025 and the newest project, a multi-use Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) facility unveiled by Biddle Carson Developments at the end of October, also broke ground this year with completion of the first phase of the facility expected in early 2026.
The Airport also continued its ESG leadership in 2024 with numerous environmental management and community investment initiatives taking place across all aspects of its business and operations. Hamilton International was pleased to further its commitment to sustainability, implementing new electric vehicle chargers and a successful renewable diesel trial project, both aimed at reducing carbon emissions while promoting sustainable transportation options. The Airport also contributed over $50,000 of financial and in-kind resources to local organizations this year, continuing its commitment to integrating a Sense of Place through its community involvement endeavours.
